Mhd Tidal Waves on a Spinning Magnetic Compact Star
نویسنده
چکیده
In an X-ray binary system, the companion star feeds the compact neutron star with plasma materials via accretions. The spinning neutron star is likely covered with a thin “magnetized ocean” and may support magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) tidal waves. While modulating the thermal properties of the ocean, MHD tidal waves periodically shake the base of the stellar magnetosphere that traps energetic particles, including radiating relativistic electrons. For a radio pulsar, MHD tidal waves in the stellar surface layer may modulate radio emission processes and leave indelible signatures on timescales different from the spin period. Accretion activities are capable of exciting these waves but may also obstruct or obscure their detections meanwhile. Under fortuitous conditions, MHD tidal waves might be detectable and offer valuable means to probe properties of the underlying neutron star. Similar situations may also occur for a cataclysmic variable – an accretion binary system that contains a rotating magnetic white dwarf. This Letter presents the theory for MHD tidal waves in the magnetized ocean of a rotating degenerate star and emphasizes their potential diagnostics in X-ray and radio emissions. Magnetohydrodynamic Rebound Shocks of Supernovae
We construct magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) similarity rebound shocks joining ‘quasistatic’ asymptotic solutions around the central degenerate core to explore an MHD model for the evolution of random magnetic field in supernova explosions. This provides a theoretical basis for further studying synchrotron diagnostics, MHD shock acceleration of cosmic rays, and the nature of intense magnetic field in...
متن کاملMHD Flow and Heat Transfer of SiC-TiO2/DO Hybrid Nanofluid due to a Permeable Spinning Disk by a Novel Algorithm
This study intends to semi-analytically investigate the steady 3D boundary layer flow of a SiC-TiO2/DO hybrid nanofluid over a porous spinning disk subject to a constant vertical magnetic field. Here, the novel attitude to single-phase hybrid nanofluid model corresponds to considering nanoparticles and base fluid masses to compute solid equivalent volume fraction, solid equivalent de...
متن کاملGeneration of Alfvén Waves by Small-Scale Magnetic Reconnection in Solar Spicules
Alfvén waves dissipation is an extensively studied mechanism for the coronal heating problem. These waves can be generated by magnetic reconnection and propagated along the reconnected field lines. Here, we study the generation of Alfvén waves at the presence of both steady flow and sheared magnetic field in the longitudinally density stratified of solar spicules. The initial flow is assumed to...
متن کاملMagnetic Braking and Viscous Damping of Differential Rotation in Cylindrical Stars
Differential rotation in stars generates toroidal magnetic fields whenever an initial seed poloidal field is present. The resulting magnetic stresses, along with viscosity, drive the star toward uniform rotation. This magnetic braking has important dynamical consequences in many astrophysical contexts. For example, merging binary neutron stars can form “hypermassive” remnants supported against ...
متن کامل3D MHD Simulations of Waves Excited in an Accretion Disk by a Rotating Magnetized Star
We present results of global 3D MHD simulations of warp and density waves in accretion disks excited by a rotating star with a misaligned dipole magnetic field. A wide range of cases are considered. We find for example that if the star’s magnetosphere corotates approximately with the inner disk, then a strong one-arm bending wave or warp forms. The warp corotates with the star and has a maximum...
